Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon matcha powder sifted
  • 2 ounces warm water about 175°F / 80°C, not boiling
  • 6 to 8 ounces milk dairy milk, oat milk, almond milk, or soy milk
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons honey maple syrup, sugar, or vanilla syrup, optional, to taste
  • ice optional, for iced matcha latte

Equipment

  • 1 Fine-Mesh Strainer  For sifting matcha powder
  • 1 Matcha whisk or handheld frother For mixing the matcha smoothly
  • 1 Mug or glass Use a mug for hot latte or tall glass for iced latte

Method

  1. Sift the matcha powder into a small bowl or mug using a fine mesh strainer to remove clumps.
  2. Add the warm water to the sifted matcha. Whisk in a quick zigzag motion until the matcha is smooth, green, and lightly foamy.
  3. For a hot matcha latte, warm the milk until hot but not boiling. Froth it if desired, then pour it into the matcha and stir gently.
  4. For an iced matcha latte, fill a tall glass with ice, add cold milk, then pour the whisked matcha over the top. Stir before drinking.
  5. Sweeten to taste with honey, maple syrup, sugar, or vanilla syrup. Serve immediately.

Notes

For a mild matcha latte, use 1/2 teaspoon matcha powder. For a stronger latte, use 1 1/2 teaspoons. Do not use boiling water because it can make matcha taste bitter. Always mix matcha with warm water before adding milk to avoid clumps. Oat milk gives the creamiest dairy-free texture.
