Ingredients

  • 1 oz Grenadine syrup Rose's or Monin recommended
  • 4 oz Lemon-lime soda Sprite or 7UP
  • 1 cup Ice cubes Fill glass generously
  • 3 Maraschino cherries For garnish
  • 1 slice Orange or lemon Optional garnish

Equipment

  • 1 Tall glass
  • 1 Bar spoon or stirrer
  • 1 Measuring jigger

Method

  1. Fill a tall glass generously with ice cubes.
  2. Pour 1 oz of grenadine syrup over the ice. Let it sink to the bottom to create a beautiful pink gradient.
  3. Slowly pour 4 oz of lemon-lime soda over the ice. Pour gently to preserve the carbonation.
  4. Stir once or twice gently to lightly combine. Do not over-stir.
  5. Garnish with 3 maraschino cherries and an orange or lemon slice on the rim.
  6. Add a colorful paper straw and serve immediately.

Notes

- For a Dirty Shirley Temple: add 1–2 oz vodka
- For a Shirley Temple Black: add 2 oz dark rum
- No grenadine? Make homemade cherry syrup with frozen cherries + sugar + water
- Use ginger ale instead of lemon-lime soda for the traditional version
- Best served immediately — don't let the ice melt too long!
